Our small contributes to God's great
I don't have a clear cut topic I want to write about today. The floors need to be mopped and dinner needs to be prepped. Rocky is at school, Evie is napping, the house in all of it's glory has a layer of grime I can't seem to conquer, and I'm struggling to keep my tush in the chair to write during my free time. Art is hard work. Life is hard work.
A couple times a week I listen to a podcast called, "Pray As You Go." It's a ten minute scripture reading and reflection snippet. Today the reading was from Luke 13:18-21:
Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to?It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.” Again he asked, “What shall I compare the kingdom of God to? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”
In these verses the Kingdom of God is compared to two very small things, small things with BIG potential. Sitting down to write today in the face of piling duties is a small thing. I'm working to be faithful in the small things, walking slowing and gaining ground in small victories. Choosing joy in mundane cycles is hard because I want great in my life. I want the best things that take the smallest amount of work.
But if I know anything about God I know His kingdom is upside down. I know small is great and first is last. I know that He has given me plenty and He will help me share all that He has given. So, I'm going to thank God for the random porta-potties for my kid to use in a potty emergency on the way to school, and I'm going to cheer like a wild person when my car passes it's emissions test the first time. I'm going to sing while I clean and stare at the fall sky in wonder, knowing my God is good right now in the midst of my bad attitude and frizz ball hair.
Every season of our lives is worth something. Our small contributes to God's great and I'm honored to be one part in His glory.
